All three ferry companies offer safe, scenic crossings to Mackinac Island. Ferries depart from Mackinaw City (Lower Peninsula) and St. Ignace (Upper Peninsula) β just a short drive from the Mackinac Bridge.

The oldest ferry service in the Straits. Arnold Line has operated for over 145 years and offers the most departures per day, with service from both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace.
Fastest
Family-owned since 1945, Shepler's is Michigan's favourite ferry. Their high-speed hydrojet boats deliver the fastest crossing time β just 16 minutes from Mackinaw City.
Best Views
Known for the most scenic crossings with spectacular close-up views of the Mackinac Bridge. Star Line's modern hydrojet fleet runs from both peninsulas.

Summer weekends and holidays sell out. Book your ferry tickets at least a week ahead during peak season (JuneβAugust).
Arrive at the dock at least 30 minutes before departure, especially if you're bringing bicycles or have a large group.
Bikes can be transported for an extra fee (~$8β12). Or rent one on the island β it's often more convenient!
Cars are not allowed on the island. Leave your vehicle at a paid lot near the ferry dock β most cost $10β20/day.
The Straits of Mackinac can be breezy even in summer. Bring a light jacket for the crossing β you'll be glad you did.
